Marvel Comics Pre-Orders and Back Issues in Singapore
The Last Bookshop is built around one focus: Marvel Comics. Every service we offer is designed around what collectors and readers in Singapore look for.
New Releases and Pre-Orders
Marvel publishes new titles every Wednesday. We stock new releases in-store and online, and offer a pre-order service to guarantee your copy of a specific issue or variant before it arrives in stock. This is especially important for limited ratio variants and first issues, which sell out quickly.
How the Process Works
- Browse our upcoming releases page, updated weekly
- Select your issue and preferred cover variant
- Place a pre-order online or in-store
- We confirm your order and notify you when it is ready for collection or dispatch
- Your comic is dispatched in a backing board and bag inside a protective rigid mailer
Pre-ordering is the most reliable way to secure issues you genuinely want, particularly in Singapore where allocations on ratio variants and first issues can be small. That said, we advise against pre-ordering every new first issue speculatively. Instead, focus on the characters and titles you genuinely read, as the hobby is more sustainable that way.
Back Issues and Key Issue Sourcing
We maintain a substantial inventory of Marvel back issues, from affordable reading copies to near-mint preserved key issues. If a specific issue is not currently in stock, we offer a sourcing service through our network of local and international buying contacts.
How the Process Works
- Search our online catalogue or visit us in-shop
- If the issue is not listed, submit a want-list request via our contact form
- We check our buying contacts and upcoming stock, and most requests are resolved within two to four weeks
- We provide a firm quote before any commitment is made
- Payment and same-day collection or island-wide delivery arranged once confirmed
Back issue collecting is rewarding but takes patience and realistic pricing. In Singapore, some key issues are scarce and often cost more. We grade carefully, describe condition clearly, and avoid overselling. A sensible approach is to know the issue you want, set a comfortable budget, and steer clear of paying extra just because of speculation.
Variant Covers and Ratio Variants
Marvel often publishes several cover versions of the same issue, including standard covers, retailer exclusives, and ratio variants (printed in proportional scarcity such as 1-in-10 or 1-in-25). These offer collectors different ways to enjoy the same story, and some feature exclusive artwork from well-known artists.
Variant covers in particular highlight the creativity of artists like Peach Momoko, Skottie Young, InHyuk Lee, and Artgerm, making them a visually rewarding part of the hobby. That said, their long-term value is uncertain, so it’s best to collect them for the art rather than as an investment.
CGC Graded Comics
CGC (Certified Guaranty Company) is a leading third-party comic grading service. Graded comics are professionally assessed for condition, given a numeric grade from 0.5 to 10, and sealed in a tamper-evident protective case known as a slab. We offer a selection of CGC-graded Marvel comics for collectors who prefer professionally evaluated books.
How the Grading Process Works
- CGC examines the comic for wear, restoration, and structural defects
- A numeric grade is assigned, with 9.8 (Near Mint/Mint) considered the most desirable standard grade
- The book is sealed in a protective slab with a label showing the grade, issue details, and any restoration notes
- Graded books usually cost more than raw copies, reflecting the assurance of verified condition
For key issues such as first appearances, low print run books, or Silver Age classics, grading adds credibility and helps preserve condition. For common modern issues, the cost is harder to justify. Turnaround times and shipping fees make speculative submissions to CGC less practical unless the book already has clear collector demand.
Trade-In and Part-Exchange
Collectors often outgrow parts of their collection, end up with duplicates, or decide to upgrade a reading copy to a higher-grade version. To make that process easier, we offer a trade-in option where unwanted Marvel comics can be exchanged toward purchases in-store.
How It Works
- Bring your comics in-shop, or contact us in advance with a list of what you have
- We assess condition and current Singapore market value
- A trade-in offer is made, with shop credit usually providing more value than cash
- Credit can be applied immediately to any available items
Trade-ins can be a practical way to keep collecting without spending continuously. Most common back issues from the 1990s have modest value, while genuine key issues, high-grade modern books, and sought-after variants can be worth more. We aim to make fair offers so the exchange feels balanced for both sides.
Subscription Pull List
You can set up a subscription pull list with us and we’ll reserve your chosen Marvel titles each week. This way you won’t miss issues, face sell-outs, or need to check in every Wednesday. Contact us to start or manage your pull list online.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I place a pre-order for a specific Marvel issue or variant?
You can pre-order online through the product listing page, or contact us directly by WhatsApp or email with the issue title, issue number, and cover variant you want. For high-demand issues, we may ask for a small deposit to confirm the reservation. We will notify you as soon as the book arrives and is ready for collection or dispatch.
Pre-orders placed before the weekly distributor cutoff are guaranteed. We will always contact you if there is a change to availability before the release date.
2. How far in advance can I pre-order upcoming Marvel releases?
Most Marvel titles are available to pre-order 4 to 8 weeks ahead of their release date, in line with the Previews catalogue cycle. For major event titles, anniversary issues, and high-demand first issues, we recommend pre-ordering as early as possible, as our allocations on variant covers and ratio variants are set by the distributor and cannot always be increased.
3. What condition grades do you use, and what do they mean?
We use the standard comic grading scale recognised by CGC and the wider collector market:
- Near Mint (NM, 9.2–9.6): Nearly perfect with only very minor handling wear. Highest grade for raw, unslabbed copies.
- Very Fine (VF, 8.0–8.5): Minor wear visible on close inspection, such as light spine stress or small corner touches. Still a very presentable, well-kept copy.
- Fine (FN, 6.0): Noticeable but light wear. Good for reading and collecting, though not investment-grade.
- Very Good (VG, 4.0): Clear wear including creases, rolled spine, or small tears. Solid reading copy.
- Good (GD, 2.0 and below): Heavy wear and significant defects. Typically priced for budget-conscious readers.
We grade conservatively. If uncertain between two grades, we list the lower one and describe the condition clearly. Any restoration is noted explicitly, and restored copies are always sold as such.
4. How does the want list sourcing service work, and is there any cost to submit one?
Submitting a want list is free and carries no obligation.
You share the details of what you’re looking for — title, issue number, variant, condition preference, and budget in SGD if you have one — and we check our contacts, upcoming stock, and wider network. We will come back to you within two business days with what we can find and at what price. You only commit if the price and condition work for you.
For very rare Silver Age keys or high-grade CGC slabs, sourcing may take longer than the standard two to four weeks.
5. What is the difference between a ratio variant and a retailer-exclusive variant?
A ratio variant is printed in proportion to a retailer’s order of the standard cover. For example, a 1-in-25 ratio variant means one copy is supplied for every 25 standard covers ordered, making it scarcer and usually more expensive. A retailer-exclusive variant is produced specifically for one shop or chain, often with commissioned artwork, and sold only through that retailer while available.
We list ratio variants with their ratio clearly noted and retailer exclusives with the commissioning shop’s name. Pricing is based on actual market value rather than hype-driven premiums.
