Our Story

The Last Bookshop started the way most good comic shops do — as a collector’s obsession that outgrew its shelf space. Founded in Singapore by lifelong Marvel fans who grew up swapping issues at school and hunting back issues at Bras Basah Complex, we set out to build the kind of shop we always wished existed here: one that truly knew the difference between a key issue and a filler issue, and treated every customer as a fellow collector rather than just another transaction.

What began as a carefully curated selection of back issues has grown into one of Singapore’s most trusted destinations for Marvel Comics. We stock everything from affordable reading copies to near-mint preserved collectables, serving casual readers and serious investors alike. Our prices are in SGD, our stock reflects the Singapore and Southeast Asian collector market, and our team understands what collectors here are actually looking for.

We can tell you which issue marks a character’s first full appearance (as opposed to a cameo), which printings are most sought after, and what to expect from a CGC-graded slab versus a raw copy. Every comic we offer is curated with knowledge and care.

Every comic we stock is checked for condition, catalogued accurately, and described honestly. If a book has a spine tick, a small crease, or a subscription address stamp, we note it. In a market where condition defines value, transparency is not just courteous, it is essential.

Community Involvement

We participate in Free Comic Book Day each year, support local collector meet-ups, and work with the comics community in Singapore through events and collaborations. We see ourselves as part of Singapore’s comics culture, not merely a retailer within it.

1. Do you only stock Marvel, or do you carry DC and other publishers too?

Our primary focus is Marvel Comics. We are intentional about this as specialisation means deeper stock, better buying decisions, and more informed advice than a shop that tries to cover everything. That said, we occasionally carry select DC and independent titles where there is clear local demand.

2. How do you decide what to stock?

We buy based on a combination of publishing significance, collector demand in the Singapore market, and our own knowledge of what matters in Marvel’s history. If a title is not worth your shelf space, it is not worth ours.

We also take direct input from our customers. If there is a title or character you want us to stock more of, do let us know.

3. Can I trust your condition grading?

We grade conservatively. Our standard is to describe every defect we can identify, including minor ones that some sellers overlook, such as spine ticks, reading creases, and subscription stamps.

If we miss something and a book arrives in a condition that does not match the listing, we will make it right with a refund or replacement. Our grading reputation matters more to us than squeezing a higher price out of a borderline copy.

4. I am new to Marvel Comics. Is this shop for me, or is it aimed at serious collectors only?

It is for both. We genuinely enjoy introducing new readers to Marvel, and we will not talk down to you or pressure you into buying more than you need. Tell us which MCU films or shows you have enjoyed, and we will recommend a reading starting point that fits your taste and budget.

At the same time, if you are a serious collector hunting a specific Silver Age key or a near-mint graded slab, we have the knowledge and stock to help with that too. We are comfortable at both ends of the spectrum.

5. Do you attend local events like STGCC or Free Comic Book Day?

Yes. We participate in Free Comic Book Day each year and have a presence at Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention (STGCC).
